3 Questions to Boosting Your PPC Profits

Last month Kevin wrote a fantastic article about Pay Per Click (PPC). He outlined how to write a killer PPC advertisement. Now that you know how to write the ad, how are you going to pay to run it? How much will you need to spend? What is your breakeven point? And ultimately, how can you avoid wasting your PPC dollars?

Before I answer these questions I would like to point out a few primary benefits of PPC.

Benefits of PPC

Here are three key benefits of PPC Advertising:

  • 1. Ads are Highly Targeted
  • 2. Results are Quickly Measurable
  • 3. You Have Complete Control

Advertising in front of your target market is as simple as adding relevant keywords to your campaign.

When it comes to understanding the effectiveness of your marketing efforts, PPC provides almost immediate results. Within hours of starting your campaign you will see impressions, CTR, CPC, and more. It will be to your advantage to study these results.

Finally PPC gives you, the advertiser, complete control with the click of a mouse. Don’t like your ad headline, change it. Spending too much money per click, change it.  Keywords aren’t working, change it. Again, complete control- this is the beauty of PPC.

The Top 3 PPC Mistakes

Ironically, the benefits I just mentioned are often negated as a result of common mistakes most new internet marketers make. To help you avoid this, I’ve narrowed them down to three mistakes that are most commonly made by PPC advertisers:

  • 1. They Don’t Research Enough
  • 2. They Don’t Measure Enough
  • 3. They Don’t Make Enough

Adjustments

These three mistakes are the quickest killers of PPC profitability. They don’t research the market, they don’t measure the results and they don’t adjust their campaigns. Consequently, these mistakes will determine whether or not you will meet your budget and break-even goals.

To show you how to do it the right way, let’s use an example. Let’s say you have a stroller review blog that you want to monetize. You are now an affiliate for a stroller store and are getting a few sales a month. You want to use PPC as a highly effective advertising medium to promote your affiliate link. So, where do you start?

1. Research

First, determine your commission. Start by typing “stroller affiliate programs” in Google.

After reading through the affiliate program webpage, I noticed that as an affiliate for Let’sGoStrolling.com I could earn 10 percent for each sale. The next step is to determine what stroller in particular I would like to promote, preferably one that you have reviewed and love.

I would also suggest promoting their website as a whole. For this example let’s say I want to promote the Bugaboo Denim Stroller which retails for $959.00. This means that for every Bugaboo Bee I sell as an affiliate I will receive $95.90 as a commission.
