When stay-at-home mom Joy Anderson found herself as the sole bread-winner for her family, she realized she’d have to find an opportunity to work from home, or else send her children to a daycare and join the nine to five rat race. She says, “I considered taking on a bunch of different jobs at home to cover the bills. But everything I did gave me only a few hundred dollars every month. That didn’t even cover my mortgage!”

She struggled with her decision until she remembered a friend who was making a full-time income teaching preschool from her home. That prompted Joy to start her own successful preschool that not only paid all the bills, but allowed her be with her kids!

Soon, she realized if starting a preschool did so much for her and her family, there must be countless other women looking for work from home who would profit from the same knowledge. Using the Micro-Continuity sales system, Joy created a free CD and put up a sales page so she could start spreading the word and by day three, she made her first sale!

She agreed to give our readers an up close look at how she created an online business using the Micro-Continuity system and how she was able to start selling in just days!:

Q: You’ve been teaching preschool for a while now with great success – so what finally made you decide to build a website where you share your secrets for a stay-at-home income?

A: After struggling for so long to find a good work from home job that not only paid the bills but also saved my kids from being in daycare, I felt like I had to tell others about it.  I couldn’t let another single mom, stay-at-home mom, retired teacher, or anyone else feel as desperate and alone as I did. I had to get the word out, to tell them there was a better way to make money at home. In fact, I think it’s the best job for any woman who not only needs a consistent income but also wants to spend quality time with her children.

Q: What was your reaction when you made your first sale?

A: The day after I launched my site, I checked my stats and I had a number 1 in my “members” list. (When someone buys my CD they get switched from my welcome list into my members list). I thought: What? This can’t be right. Wait – did somebody just buy my CD??? And sure enough, I checked my email and lo and behold, I saw “Successful order for Start a Preschool.com.”

I couldn’t believe it!

I called my entire family. I had finally made it! Someone thought that what I had made was worth something. To this day (and probably for the rest of my life) I’ll never forget the name of my first customer. It’s just one of those monumental occasions where I had no idea I could make money with internet marketing—and yet, there I was, making money!

That sale led to five more that week, and the sales just keep rolling in!

Q: What methods are you using to drive traffic that have worked for you so far and have you tried any that maybe haven’t worked so well?

A: So far I have relied primarily on social media sites like Twitter to drive traffic to my site.  At first, I thought I could follow everyone on a single list, so I went after big lists like Oprah and Ashton Kutcher. Well, I quickly realized that’s not how the follow process works, and I ended up getting followed by a ton of internet marketers. Which isn’t so bad, if they had been my target audience, but they weren’t.

That’s when I learned I needed to go after my target market of stay-at-home moms, and then develop a relationship with them. I also learned to answer all my messages, and send fun tweets out to my followers. I have quite a following now and it’s definitely paying off!

I am also improving my SEO presence and PPC marketing to drive more traffic.

Q: What is your favorite part about running a successful business from home?

A: My favorite part about running this business from home is hearing from people about how excited they are to start their own preschool! I have gotten several emails from women saying they used to run home daycares and couldn’t handle the exhaustion any longer.  They were very excited to start up their own preschools!

I also love to send out fun, creative ideas and activities to people on my email list.

Q: What’s the most important advice you would give to other people who are just starting out building a home-based business (preschool or online)?

A: I would tell them: Cherish what’s important. Whether that’s your family, values, personal time, or something else. Always put that first, and let the business come second. There will be times when you spend several sleepless nights putting together your new business, but keep all things in perspective and don’t lose sight of why you’re trying to succeed in your home business. And if your priorities get skewed, as they easily can, quickly fix the situation so that you keep what’s important: important.
