Targeted Advertising Through SEO

Have you noticed that on the social networking sites like Facebook, they have some very clever advertising? Each ad is almost always tailored to your specific interests. What these companies have done is taken the information you have plugged into your profile and used that to target you as a potential customer.

For example; if you have entered the name of your favorite band or your favorite music genre into your profile, you might see an ad for a new CD that’s being released. If there’s an advertisement about something you are interested in, it’s more likely to grab your attention. The key here is to use the information that you already have about your customers to your advantage.

Now, let’s apply this concept to search engine optimization. When a customer chooses their keywords and types them into the search query, then that tells you exactly what they are searching for. Now it’s up to you to provide them with the information they need and to secure their business. This is accomplished when you create your “title tag.” Let’s use auto insurance as an example; if you are a company that sells auto insurance, but the only word in your title tag is “Geico,” customers are going to have to work a lot harder to access the information they are looking for and are likely to choose a different company. However, if your title tag is “Geico Auto Insurance,” that makes things a lot easier for the customer. It also makes your job easier because you will be targeting your ideal customers.
