Community Marketing
Before you start selling any product, you need to think about a few things.
1st - who is your target market? Many people fail because they don't ever define a target market. If you don't know exactly who it is your going to sell to... then you'll never make it in direct response marketing.
You see - with big companies, (think McDonalds or coke) they rely on brand marketing. Where you throw something out and hope that a little of it sticks in their customers mind when they are hungry or thirsty.
As direct response internet marketers, we aren't going after everyone. We don't want to rely on brand marketing.
We want to know who our target market it, and then figure out ways to get our messages directly to them.
2nd - After you've identified who is your target market - it's time to figure out where you can find cluster of those type of people.
Offline, the best way is to rent a mailing list of people w/ the same characteristics of the person who is your target or to find a JV with someone who has the same target as you.
Online - there are a few ways. One of my favorite is to find a community of my target market.
When I was wrestling, I used to spend hours every day in all the popular wrestling forums talking about wrestling with people all over the world!
All of the wrestlers were targeted onto one forum. Now, if you were selling a product to wrestlers, where would your target market be?
Yup - in that forum. Now the question is how can you mine those names out of the forum and get them onto your own lists?
Most forums and communities won't allow you to post blatant ads, but you can become part of their communities. Post useful messages, and use a "signature" file in each of your posts that gives people a free report or something else that would get someone to go to your website and fill out your autoresponder form.
Also - this IS the best place to network with people in your niche. The big list owners generally are in the forums posting messages. Become friends with them there, and do a joint venture with them later. :)
Learning to tap into online communities is very important. I know the power of them because this is how I started my online business AND how I start when I go into any niche.
Because I know the power of online communities, I've build one that was focused on internet marketers.
I'd love to invite you to become part of my community. I put in quite a few incentives to make it worthwhile for you to post messages and be an active member.
I had a few people laugh at the fact that I wrote a sales page for a free forum, but I wanted it to stick out in your mind. :)
You can see my sales page and create your free account here:
I look forward to having you as an active member in our community. Also - look for those communities in your niche that you can use to network and build your lists.
Thanks

Russell,
I have read your article
that you posted i.e."Community Marketing" and I found it very useful and helpful.
8) I am already a member of your niche site and posted few comments. It is very cool idea.
:D READY!

 aim???
LaDonnaBella blogs women over 50 who want to keep looking good without looking stupid, like with too much cosmetic surgery and teenage styles.
Thanx, Russ. Now I have a better idea how to find all those old ladies, er, baby boomers.
AARP, Third Age, etc.
CAN DO!
Hi Russell,
I agree with your post...that you must become part of the community that you want to do business with.
And using a forum where you can become friends with members of that community and it's power brokers is a great way to buld the relationships you need to become successful.
Mitch
As usual Russell, you make a lot of sense.
The new Forum is fantastic, I am honored to be a member.
What's more you really walk the talk. You found a niche and you filled it.
Your Forum already has over 9,000 members with over 4,300 posts!
Incredible.
Gooood Morning Russ.
Great post !! Ihave a question though about how you use "brand". Nw this may be my confusion, but arent you branding your self with this blog in someway shape or form. I understand the only way to score big is be selective and going after narrow targets. But wouldnt you say that, ok I just re-thought it.. are you suggesting to go more for the position as opposed to the brand or the image.I guess the last two kind of go hand in hand.
Any hoo just a thought.(barely finishing my first coffee here)
Have a great saturday
Shane
Which mailing list companies do you recommend? Ave. price for 500 niche names?

From Russell
For offline lists - I'd call a listbroker from your phone book. They can create a list from the SRDS for you.
Online - I'd create a squeeze page and start driving traffic to the page and build your own list.
Hi Russel: I'm already a member of your forum too and posted a few comments, thanks.
Community is everything!
What a blessing it is to be able to have a group that is not limited by time & space!
:D thanks Russell for the helpful hints on communtiy marketing.
keith
I have found that in my niche none of the forums have a sig file facility.
I am finding it really hard to find my target market because they can be any age or income bracket.
=========
From Russell
With your target - don't do it by age or income bracked - do it hobby related. What are they passionate about? What do they buy? What are they talking about.
Then use that info to find the communities where they hang out.
If you can't use a signature line - contact the owner of the forum and see if you can buy banner space or something like that.
Hope this helps.
Hi Russell,
Well after years of seeing a load of crap you have taught me more in a few minutes compared to all the stuff I have bought and all the biz ops I have joined. Thanks you. Look forward to working with you, Clive.
I am a former Vice President of a major Entertainment company with over 85 major motion pictures to our credit. I have been navigating the sea of various internet home businesses recently.Russel Brunson is the first one that makes sense and does not sugar coat the realities of starting a home based internet company. Refreshing to say the least. This newsletter is just another piece of valuable information that Mr. Brunson and his team share with others. I have learned more from his information than anything out there so far. Keep it up and thanks Russel.

Hi Russ,
Your paint a good reminder of the need to plan, plan, and refine your plan before launching any initiative.
I mentor a group of Internet Marketers and too often I hear all sorts of traffic generation strategies and monetization strategies and they come off so ad-hoc that I shake my head and ask them "But what's your plan?"
They look and me and say 'Plan?"
Unfortunately, too many newbie bloggers who want to generate income from their efforts seem to think that blogging about their life, or what they learned from a recent seminar is going to make them rich.
I think your posts and the posts at CYN gives them a reality check.
Crunch.!
I'm blogging you Russell.
Good stuff here for the newbie in all of us.

Are you selling plastic surgery? Cause I for one would never want to buy that...
BUT...
If you are selling the benefits that come w/ plastic surgery - I'm sure you could sell me or any baby boomer. :)

Right?
Hello Russell:
Thanks for the invite. I thoroughly enjoy using your Conquer Your Niche forum and I try to make constructive contribution from time to time. I am only sorry that I didn't know about it sooner.
On the subject of Community Marketing, I think that it is a wonderful way to market to your niche area of business. When you have like minded people coming together in a forum, clusters of customers who may originally not be in your niche may gravitate towards you and what you have to contribute.
Step back a little and note that each of these cluster groups have affiliates that may have interests in your particular niche. Thus, by marketing yourself in a forum with useful posts that people remember may actual start to build listmembers for your site/niche without your having to resort to paid advertisements.
I like this article.
It let´s me see the things more clear.
Thanks :-)
My apprciate your endeavours and your value time you spent.
My best regards
Hi, Russell! Thanks for the info (i.e., Who is your target market? and Where can you find them?)... May I know when you will be discussing about "HOW to really get your target market to buy your product?" and "How to have some "back-end sales" later?
I appreciate as well your warm invitation into your community...If you may know, I'm already a current member... I find the forum informative, useful, and member-friendly...

Brilliant idea,Russell!
this ConquerYourNiche have give my site traffic since I join it..Thanks, man!
In general this is correct. I find offline marketing much more effective. Too many people online are looking for the quick and easy buck and aren't willing to work a business. I build online contacts with as you say targeted niche populations and there are lots of these groups out there. Directmatches seems to be one of the most dynamic I've ran into. Best of luck to all! Hey Russell, thanks for giving me the opportunity to post on your blog. You have some RICH information here that is KEY to any marketers' success online. I look forward to more of your expertise as I am always intrigued to learn more and more
Becoming a part of the target community is even more important when the community ISN'T IM. Lots of people marketing to other markets don't have an IM background giving us a bit of an edge. Thanks for your insight! Always helpful.

Hi Russell,
What you've shared is very imformative. I have been looking for ways to drive traffics to my websites but not very successful so far. With my small marketing budget, my only option is to opt fo free marketing methodes.
I love your community and the idea about generating traffic from your target market. I do believe that point number 1 is one that is often overlooked. And then you have no idea about your target market!
Thanks for the reminders :)

Hey Russell! Wanted to say that this is a nice idea. Congratulations on your achievements. Even big gurus are recommending your conqueryourniche forum. Hi Russell,
You recently sent me an email with a link to "Blog Rush". You also asked me to open an account. I need help to open that account. There are some "technical questions" to which I don't have the answer. For example: "URL Address" and "URL Feed". Can you help, please?
Second, I bought your program on Affiliate Landmines. I don't have access to this program or the membership site. When can you send that? This is urgent because I need to get started soon.
Please email me asap. Thanks.

Aloha RussBrun & everone else reading this blog!
I must admit that my first 8 months online have been a REAL eye-opener and because of this, I am now trying different ways of getting my products & ideas across. So, here I am and it feels pretty good to be PART OF SOMETHING bigger than myself.
I have a lot to offer, but no one will ever know that if all I do is blast ads and insert URls into traffic exchanges. I guess this is why so many of the "social" sites are popping up everywhere. I have used the excuse that I don't have the time to do stuff like this....BUT..that's not entirely true! A 5 or 10 minute read & post will help me get to know all of you & hopefully vice-versa. In the long run, I may develop some relationships that lead to business deals and/or business partners.
I joined Conquer Your Niche months ago..but like many of the other "opportunities" that I joined, I couldn't tell you what is even going on there. So, I think I'll slow down a little, go on over to Conquer Your Niche & check it out.
Thanks for listening... I'll stop back soon!

Dear Russell,
I am curious as to how many hours per day internet marketers spend working on their websites per week. It seems to me that there must be a lot of sleep deprived people out there. Since I used to work night shifts as a nurse, I am concerned about you. So, how late do all of you get to sleep?
Blessings, EnergyJackpot
I logged into Conquer Your Niche just a few days ago and just absolutely fell in love with the concept behind it. Leave it to Russel to be the one to bring something so unique to the marketplace. Anyone thats not a member should definately join in even at the free level there are massive benifits to contributing to the site.

Hi everyone. My name is John Muyris and I'm a full time

I agree that the best way to contact people about your
business or product is in communities and the social network
communities are the best places.
I started with gibLink on September 22th. and this is a

sharing program where everybody gets paid to be a member

Great article. I really enjoyed it. I'll see you in the forum.
Fantastic Ideas!
I know you've been an advocate for forum posting for a long time. I actually use a Desktop Forum Manager software, that I'm certain you're very aware of, that helps me navigate from several different forums quite easily. So, I get to participate in a lot more forums than I could possibly manage without it. Anyway, it's been a huge benefit being able to develop those relationships and add our signature file to our posts. We've received a great deal of traffic and business by this means alone.
I would have thought you'd add a little plug for your software at the same time. It's quite useful.
See you on the board!
